Bucegi Natural Park (Babele & Sphinx)
A dramatic mountain plateau reached by cable car from Bușteni, famous for the wind-eroded "Babele" and "Sphinx" rock formations.
Overview
The Bucegi Mountains rise abruptly above the Prahova Valley, and a cable car from Bușteni climbs directly to the high plateau, avoiding a long hike for visitors who just want the view. At the top, two wind-eroded rock formations, known as Babele ("the old women") and the Sphinx for their unusual silhouettes, are the main draw.
Beyond the two formations, marked trails cross open, high-altitude terrain with wide views over the Carpathians, popular with hikers looking for a fuller day on the plateau.
Why Visit
One of the most accessible high-mountain viewpoints in Romania, reachable without a serious hike if time is limited.
Best for
- hikers
- travellers wanting big mountain views without a long climb

Practical notes

Getting there
The cable car departs from Bușteni, on the main Prahova Valley road and rail line.
Best time to visit
